Oh dear... the list could go on and on! I am really enjoying seeing the AMAZEMENT in the kids eyes this year. Its so neat to see it the way they do. To hear their innocent comments, see the wonder on their faces, and watch them carefully write their letters to Santa. While I do think there is a bit of commercialism in the holiday, we do our best to try to teach the kids the "reason for the season." And when I hear comments above from Trevor it just warms my heart as a parent. For all the things we do wrong as parents, I think (and pray) maybe we are doing some things right too.

From our family to yours... have a blessed holiday season!

Positive Peer Pressure

Morgan is now 3 years and 9 months old. For nearly all of those years and month, she has been hesitant to go to strangers. I'm sure is often mistaken as being snotty because she will not willingly talk to people she does not know... not even a simple "Hi." About a month ago I took her to the mall with me (which we have only recently been able to do without having a major meltdown) to buy new shoes for her Christmas dress. Low and behold, Santa was there that day making a visit! She would not even look at him. She buried her head in me and wanted to walk around the back of his chair because she DID NOT WANT TO SEE HIM. Now really, I can't blame her. Why would any little kid want to see a big, older man, with a beard that covers his face? On their level it probably is a bit scary.

Fast forward a month, and Santa makes a visit to school! Wow! What a surprise! All of Morgan's friends in her preschool class sat on his lap. Then what do you know...

She sat on Santa's lap! Now that is what I call positive peer pressure! She asked him for a princess castle with a Cinderella doll.

When it was the kindergartner's turn, Trevor walked right up to him and got his picture taken. He asked for a butterfly catcher.

tagged!

I have been tagged by Amy

The rules are to link the person who sent this and leave a comment on their blog so their readers can visit yours~Post the rules on your blog~Share 7 strange/weird facts about yourself~Tag 7 random people at the end of your post and link their blog~Let each person know they've been tagged by leaving a comment on their blog.

Here are my strange / weird facts:
1. I play bassoon. I started in high school, sold mine in college to pay for a year of tuition, and Brian bought me a new one a few years after we got married.
2. I am allergic to dogs, but I have 2 of them.
3. I hate to exercise. They say it releases natural endorphins, you feel good when you do. Yeah, not so much for me. Oh well. I'll keep trying.
4. Our house no longer has diapers or a crib. May not sound weird to you, but feels weird to me.
5. I take pictures just to be able to use certain scrapbooking supplies.
6. My face is so dry, yet I still break out. I break out now more than when I was a teenager.
7. I have been at the same job for 9 years. When I started, I didn't think I'd make to 1 year

OK, now I tag: Jodi, Leslie
Sorry - I don't even know 7 people who blog!

an update of sorts

We're baaaaack! Another sabbatical... and here we are again.
So lets just cut to the chase - I'll update on the latest happenings in our household (we'll be clear right now - no I am not pregnant, I can hardly handle the 2 I have)

Christmas was awesome. Both kids totally were into it. On Christmas Eve Trevor wanted to call Santa and ask him for a picture of the reindeer. Since Santa had already left the North Pole (and doesn't have a cell phone), we left a note. And sure enough, the big guy left 3 pictures of reindeer. The look on Trevor's face when he saw the pictures was PRICELESS! Top gifts this year: Smart Cycle, Browns football helmet, princess suitcase filled with princess dresses, princess vanity.

Brian's (twin) sister Heather is engaged and is getting married on April 26. I am a bridesmaid, Brian a groomsmen, and the kids are the flower girl and ring bearer (or princess and bear as Morgan would say)

Sonja's twins are 5 months old and lots of fun. They are really interacting a lot. Trevor and Morgan LOVE to see them and "play" with them.

We are going to Siesta Key, Florida in June with Sonja and Vince and all the kids. We are so looking forward to a relaxing vacation with the kids. Trevor and Morgan have both been to a beach before, but at ages 3 and 5, it will be even more fun!

We got a Wii. A few days after Christmas Toys-R-Us had a bunch in stock so we (well Brian) just walked in and got it. We all enjoy it. Morgan loves to watch Daddy play Guitar Hero. Trevor loves to do the bowling and baseball. As I suspect (hope?) most boys are, he always wants to win. He has really had to learn the whole concept of "having fun" and "doing your best."

As happens every time this year we are considering moving. We have "considered" it every year for the last 4 years. We'll see.

OK, thats about it. I'll close with a picture from yesterday when the kids and I went to visit my sister at work for lunch. The kids both adore Aunt Jodi, and asked repeatedly if they could go to her house and have a sleep over.

Catch the Christmas Spirit

Trevor and Morgan took part in the "Catch the Christmas Spirit" concert at church last Sunday evening. These two helped cheer them on to the OT victory today! Well Trevor did at least. He was so excited and pumped up about it. Every time they scored he wanted a high five. He gave us an update on the score about every 30 seconds. It really was an awesome win for the Browns. And in case anyone is wondering, when Trevor grows up he is going to be a football player for Ohio State, then the Browns, and then when he's done with that he will be a plumber.
Trick-or-treating was fun - for Trevor. Not so much for Morgan... we got off to a bad start when we walked onto the front porch and she was scared of the "punkins on fire" (the tealights inside the jack-o-lanterns). But Captain Hood (aka Brian) took them out trick or treating while I handed out treats. Morgan was not at all thrilled with anyone in a mask, any jack-o-lantern, or any Halloween decorations (let alone sounds). They made it about 1/3 the way around and Brian brought her home. Even at home she didn't want to sit on the porch - she was getting scared of the kids in costumes coming to our door. I said to her maybe she's to little. Her reply "I too wittle for twick-0-tweat"

And the babies had their first costumes on... Of course in Morgan's eyes they were not pumpkins, they are actually huge orange bouncy balls. After we cut the tops off, we thought for sure the kids would just dive in and scoop the slimy stuff and seeds out. Trevor's teacher at school said he "dove right in" to scoop stuff out when the class carved a pumpkin. As you can imagine, things went in fact completely opposite of what the parent anticipated. Morgan was just too busy to help - playing with sticks, leaves, bricks from the landscaping. And Trevor said it was too slimy, and was begging for a real ball to play with. I did manage to get them to pose for pictures though:

Next post... Lucky you!
We've been up to lots of fun things in the last few weeks - especially in all the nice weather!
Trevor started Pre-K! He is no longer in preschool, it is Pre-K. And in case you forget, he will <s>politely</s> correct you. Here is his first day:

And of course we did go apple picking at Miller's Apple Farm. We go there every year because they have SOOO many trees, a hay maze, farm animals, a pumpkin patch, and games for the kids. This year we went on a weekday that Brian and I were both off so we had virtually no crowd there whatsoever. Which was nice when we were trying to man the entrances and exits to the hay maze to make sure our kiddos didn't escape! Then on a trip to Mansfield to visit Brian's parents we went to another fall festival. This was like no other! Here we had a huge hay maze - and these people smart! The entrance and exit were right by each other and there was only 1 entrance and 1 exit! Novel concept when you are trying to keep track of your kids. AND they had a platform parents could go on (right next to the entrance and exit) so we could see over the hay to see where our little munchkins were! This was a free event, but man, I'd pay to go there from now on - much less mommy stress at the hay maze! They built slides out of these huge tubes and bails of hay, they had horse drawn wagon rides, bounce houses, face painting. But the HIGHLIGHT of the trip was to go on the "Tarzan" rope and swing into the hay. Trevor loved it. And after watching Trevor go on it a <s>hundred</s> few times, Morgan decided to get up the urge to try it too - and 1. she could actually do it and 2. she LOVED it. And of course <s></s><s></s> <s>Martha Stewart</s> I decided to do a few crafts with the kids too - this afternoon.
In case you were thinking of doing this, let me let you in on a little secret:
Lots of little foam pieces + stickers + hot glue gun <s>≠</s> fun (for Mommy at least!)

But we tried. And the end results are pretty cute. Trevor picked out a pirate ship to make and Morgan decorated a tree.
OK, so thats our brief update... more on the pumpkins later.

TWINS!!!

We have twins! I had taken the day off to go downtown to give a deposition in a case in which I was serving as an expert witness. I was home with Brian that morning, still in pajamas watching the Today show. It wasn't long before virtually the entire city of Cleveland (and suburbs) had shut down. I think on that day, virually everyone in America felt vulnerable. Trevor's first soccer game on a U5 team was this weekend. This is the first time he is on a team that has practices and games! He is so excited and loved it! It really is all for fun - no goalies, no score-keeping. Brian's outdoor league started this weekend too (for him at least, really they started last weekend but work scheduled interfered). I took the kids to watch part of his game. Trevor watched and cheered daddy on, and Morgan - well - she provided lots of entertainment for the players not on the field - talking to them about Dora, singing Mary had a little lamb, explaining what you use an umbrella for.

Here he is getting in there to kick the ball! Toward the end of the game he really tried hard to go for the ball. She doesn't have to wait long.... she is old enough to do tot soccer this season! It starts this Saturday. It's for 2 1/2 to young 4 year olds. They split them up by age, so her group is mostly 2 1/2 to young 3 year olds. I remember when Trevor started at this age... it is quite a site. The coach does a great job teaching the kids (and the parents) some beginning soccer skills for about 30 minutes. Then they split the kids up and do a "scrimmage" which is really funny... like an amoeba of kids moving around the field.

It will be neat to go to something of Morgan's though, and have Trevor watch her for once!

Splash Pad!

Well, I think (hope) today was the last of our 90+ degree summer days. Amen."
Thankfully I had my camera right there, so I asked her to say it again and she did repeat herself. Surprisingly, she actually stays in it at naptime and bedtime. When we set up the bed we figured she definately needed the safety rail thing. It seemed like Trevor might be old enought to go without one, so we just took it off his bed and put in on hers.

Side note: He has only fallen off his bed once since we have done this, but that kid is such a heavy sleeper he didn't even wake up!

I guess its a good thing we put the rail on Morgan's bed. These are from tonite, 30 minutes after I put the her to bed:

Interestingly - her feet are inches from her pillow. I can't see how this is comfortable. I just hope that net is strong!

NOTE: About 2 hours later, Morgan managed to fall completely out of her bed, despite the safety net!

Summer Days

Well - not much going on around the Rose Household... we are just trying to enjoy the last of the summer days before the busy fall starts. In between the rainy days we have managed to take walks, ride bikes, and go swimming.

This will probably be the last summer for this pool. It certainly has served us well, but the kids are getting a little big for it.

We even ventured out for put-putting. The kids LOVED it. I can't believe she did it. She raised over $3000 dollars on her own. And she walked 60 miles over 3 days. Unbelievable! Considering a marathon is 26 miles - she walked over twice that distance! There is no way I could have the stamina or strength. So Jodi - THANK YOU for doing the walk. THANK YOU for doing what you did to help our generation and our future generations overcome this horrible disease.

The kids and I went to one of the cheering areas in Beachwood. Trevor helped me make a sign - its hard to tell but he wrote "GO GO GO" across the top part of the sign (if you click on the first picture you may be able to see it better). He was very proud of that sign, and once the walkers started coming by he held it proudly. We got there right at 9am because we didn't want to miss Jodi and her friend/teammate Dina. We saw a lot of strong men and women doing the walk. I have to say every time a group came by it was emotional for everyone. Trevor was so excited to cheer for everyone and give some of them High-fives. One of the teams was passing out balloons - Morgan got one of those and loved it! Jodi was able to stop for a few minutes to talk and hug the kids - which they loved. Both were happy to cheer her on with "Go Jodi Go!"

Seattle

We made it to Seattle, Washington yesterday after 5 hours of flying. It is beautiful here - mid 70's and sunny. We had lunch at the Space Needle (that is the picture above) and visited the Seattle Aquarium, took a cruise through the harbor in Elliot Bay, went to the Pike Place Market, and have done lots of walking around. We miss Trevor and Morgan! But it has been fun so far! We get on the ship tomorrow - Yeah!

Painting furniture

For the last 2 weeks, Morgan has been sleeping on the trundle pull out bed in Trevor's room with him. We have done this to get them both ready for their time at Nana and Papa's in which they will share a bedroom, and Morgan will not have a crib. (Side note - while Brian and I are on our Alaskan cruise, they will have 5 days at each set of grandparents.) They have the same set up there - a day bed with a pull out trundle bed. Morgan LOVES to sleep in the big bed. And at first Trevor enjoyed "showing her the ropes" so to speak. But for about the last 5 days, Trevor has all but begged for us to not have Morgan sleep in his room. Why you ask? Because she talks to much. That is exactly what he told me. While trying to contain my laughter, I explained to him that she is a girl, and after all, girls like to talk.

So when I suggested we get Morgan's big-girl room ready, Trevor was first in line to help me paint her bed. He did a great job, and only a got a few drops of paint on 1 shoe! She will have all white furniture, and after we order the bedding we will paint the walls in her room a new color.

Memphis Kiddie Park

This past Monday was an unusual day in that both Brian and I were both off work that day, and it was a decent day outside... so we took the kids to Memphis Kiddie Park! Its basically an amusement park for kids less than 50 inches tall. Its free to get in, then you buy tickets for the kids which they use to "pay" to get on the rides. It has about 11 or 12 rides all together, including the "Little Dipper" rollar coaster. Trevor could not get on the rides fast enough. Morgan was not too sure at first, but once she realized she could sit with Trevor on the rides it was great fun.

I was AMAZED that they both actually wanted to go on this little ferris wheel. There was a little boy probably Trevor's age who cried and screamed the whole time, and I thought for sure that would have been Morgan, but she LOVED it! They both did really.

This "horse-pull" ride was definately Morgan's favorite, even though you can't tell by the look on her face!

This car driving one was Trevor's favorite! He was quite proud of his orange car!

And here they are on the Little Dipper. Again, I thought for sure one of them would be scared on this one. I even contemplated going on the ride and sitting with Morgan (like the lady in this picture did with her daughter), but Brian convinced me that they would be fine. Despite the slight whiplash in Morgan, they had a GREAT time!

And I'll end this post with a nice picture of Trevor catching some yummy bugs in his mouth!

A Twin Baby Shower!

My friend Sonja is having twins this fall... and today we had a baby shower for her! And another friend - Diane - did a great job on food. She offered to take care of food, so I said to Diane, "OK - I'll get you the names and phone numbers of some caterers." Her reply "Oh no - I'll make the food!" Holy cow - she took a lot of time, and I felt like I was eating at a gourmet restaurant. The menu included spinach/smoked gouda fritatta, tropical chicken salad, tortellini spinach salad w/ lemon viniagrette, assorted muffins/croissants with lemon butter and cream cheese, mixed berry trifle with orange sauce, lemonade, peach tea, mimosas, and water. I have not eaten that good in a LONG time!

Sonja got a lot of really nice gifts, lots of useful things. Morgan is not too sure. She tolerates the sprinkler if the hose faucet is turned on about 10 degrees - or next to nothing. Trevor on the other hand like it on all the way. Imagine Morgan's reaction when he snuck into the garage to turn it on all the way while Morgan was bout 3 inches away from the sprinkler itself. She may run like a girl, but she sure can run. And scream. And cry. The people across the street were out and heard her (along with half of our neighborhood) and I'm sure were wondering what exactly was the cause of her distress.

I guess all the excitement led the kids to be thirsty. So this post will be about all the fun things kids say - in their language.

Morgan

Pappy - her pacifier

boon boon - balloon

wasin ban ban - Raisin Bran (her favorite cereal)

Sleeping Judy - Sleeping Beauty

Yogurt - I know sounds like a food item. But you must hear it in context. When she plays with a Shrek toy, her toy is a "yogurt" which can be translated to ogre, as in "I'm an ogre."

I should add, that I don't think either Trevor or Morgan has seen any of the Shrek movies, so I don't understand the fascination with said toy (from a McDonald's Happy Meal). It could be that when you press the button it alternates between saying "I'm an ogre" and a belching noise. I hate to take it away, because when they do get a hold of it, the most beautiful sound occurs after each and every belch.... the infamous belly laugh of a child. You can never get enough of that!

Trevor

lellow - yellow (doesn't every kid do this? please say yes)

Banilla - vanilla

Basana - lasagna

Cash regger - cash register (one of his favorite toys)

Nickles - again, to you and I it sounds like money, but curiosity got the best of him during bathtime a few months ago, and he pointed to his chest and said "Mommy, what's this?" After dinner, I asked Trevor to put his bowl and cup in the sink. And because he's such a little angel (?) he took it a step further and proceeded to wash the other dishes in the sink. I thanked him for doing that, and he asked me if he was a good dishwasher. I said of course. His reply: because I am going to be a dishwasher-man when I grow up! I asked him if he was sure about that, and he was. And then he told me was going to be grown up, a writer, a teacher, a painter, a builder, and a payer at grocery store (this is a cashier for those of you who don't know Trevor-speak). Here he is... getting a head start:

And of course Morgan was quick to join in the fun as well:

When I grow up, I want to be...

So, when you ask Trevor what he wants to be when he grows up, he replies he want to be a
firefighter, ambulance guy, policeman, a doctor, a train conductor, and a grown up. Really the whole firefighter-ambulance guy-policeman thing is everything to him. However, I found him practicing another "proposed profession" this morning:

Yes - thats right - a manicurist. Oh boy. Don't tell Brian or Papa about this one. Really kiddo, based on the final results, I think you should stick to being a firefighter.

After he finished Morgan's nails, he asked if he could have polish on his nails. I told him no. He asked why (all of you parents out there I'm sure KNEW this was the next question). I explained to him that nail polish was for girls. Again, he asked WHY. Somewhere in the depths of my brain, I was able to quickly come up with the response "well honey, only girls get to wear nailpolish, and boys get to wear those fun tattoos. Remember the Thomas tattoos you got?" He replies with an "oh yeah." I can't believe my answer satisfied him.

My Damaged Foot

So right before we left for baseball on Saturday, as I was walking out the front door, my ankle rolled. Have you ever done that? It hurts. It hurts A LOT. I have done it many times before, but something told me this was a bit different. As I said epletives to myself (Trevor was right in front of me, or else I may have said them out loud). I sat down with a tear in my eye. But we had things to do, places to go, so off to baseball we went. I thought if it still hurts when Brian gets home from work, maybe I'll go to the ER. But by the time 10:30pm rolled around, I was too tired. I had to work the next day, and by the end of my shift, the ER wasn't too busy, so I figured I'd head on up the the ER. The triage nurse sent me on my way to slower - I mean faster - care where I got some xrays taken. The Faster Care doctor examine me for all of about 35 seconds and decided I had a fracture.

A nurse came in and gave me the most wonderful invention in the world - this aircast. Now let me tell you, with every step I talk, even with my pitiful limping, everytime my right foot hit the ground it felt like a sharp dagger was going through every mucle and bone in the right side of my foot. I put this fancy aircast on - and the angels sang. I could actually stand and walk with very little pain.

I was told to follow up with a podiatrist, which I did the next day. Upon further review of my xrays, she said there was a small line on one of the bones in my foot that "might be a fracture, but she's not convinced" We may find its a stress fracture (basically a hairline fracture) but that is very difficult to see on xrays until you see signs of bone healing. So I will wear this cast for 2 weeks, which is when I follow up with her next. On the information sheets at the foot doctor's office, they asked what my goal of the visit was, I quickly replied "for my foot to be better by August 3rd, because that is when we leave for our Alasakan cruise, for our 10 year anniversary.

I'm back

I am trying once again... trying to do the blog thing and try to do it somewhat regularly. Not really too much going on in the Rose house these days. Trevor is doing baseball (working on skills... no real games yet). He so far seems to love it. Morgan is very envious and looks forward to the day she can be on the team too. Its for 3 and 4 year olds, so maybe next year we can sign her up. Here are some pictures from this morning.

The kids did get to see their first rainbow this week - very cool. Why? Mainly for my kids, but the selfish part of me says its for myself. I never want to forget the fun days, the times, the cute things the kids say, or the expressions they have. Also - another great way to keep family and friends up to date on our happenings. Our lives have been so busy lately. Literally not a day goes by where we don't have something going on!
